REIGNING MISS WORLD TO VISIT KENYA IN JULY

Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills is set to visit Kenya for a four-day tour as part of her role as reigning beauty queen. She will be in the country on July 8 to present Miss World Kenya Natasha Metto with the Beauty with a Purpose Award and a cheque of $10,000 (Sh 800,000).
The Beauty with a Purpose recognises the Miss World contestant who is shown, through charitable works, to have made a real difference to people in need in her homeland.
An excited Natasha told Hot Secrets, “I’m really excited and humbled that Alexandria is coming. This is the firsts time a reigning Miss World is visiting the country and more so during my reign. It is history in the making.”

During her visit Alexandria will visit Gatanga where some of the jigger menace survivors live, this will help her learn more about the Anti Jigger campaign and it’s success stories. On July 9 she will travel to Mathera to see first hand how the residents are trained on living jigger free.
Ahadi Trust the NGO dealing with the campaign recently won three awards at the African International Achievers Awards, last month. They bagged the country special award, reducing child mortality award, sanitation and general health award. The awards was presented to the NGO’s CEO Stanley Kamau by Lord mayor of Bradford, Naveeda Ikram.

Stanley said, “After the campaign was recognized at the awards, Alexandria’s visit adds momentum to the continuity of our campaign. The media attention will also help us highlight the jigger menace and we hope that the government will take a front seat role in this fight. They should also embrace her visit as a chance to market Kenya as a top tourist destination.”
The anti jigger campaign ambassador and former beauty queen, Cecilia Mwangi added that she hopes the attention will “make the government take the jigger fight seriously and that they will set aside a day where the awareness for the campaign will be highlighted, or even an awareness week in schools.”
