The two headliners for the Safaricom Classical Fusion series of events are already in the country for the shows.
Kenyan Born Rhoda Ondeng and South African Soweto String Quartet were present at a press briefing on Monday afternoon.
“It’s a pleasure to be here for the first time, though we have made a stop over four to six times at the airport on our way to countries and we would ask when we will ever actually leave the airport for a visit to Kenya,” SSQ’s Sandile Khemese said.
The quartet also includes siblings Reuben Khemese, Thami Khemese and Makhosini Mnguni.
Safaricom’s CEO Michael Joseph too was surprised that SSQ agreed to come for the classical fusion, “”I thought it was impossible,” he said directing it to the organisers of the function “They don’t have time to come to Kenya.”
But lauded the effort of the company in developing the Classical music fan base and in the process giving back to the community.
