MIKE TYSON, SARA PALIN AND ZIGGY ON DICOVERY
Discovery Networks and DStv were in Nairobi to announce there sizzling new line up of stand-out, awe-inspiring content from across the Discovery portfolio.
At the event hosted at the Tribe Hotel, Discovery Networks announced ambitious plans to
showcase the very best in global factual entertainment to DStv subscribers in East
Africa across its channels Discovery Channel, Discovery World, Discovery HD Showcase and Animal Planet.
“We’re delighted to be here with DStv in Kenya, for our first ever East African event, to share our top line-up of brand new shows. We’re certain that they are going to be a big hit with DStv viewers across Africa” said Paul Welling, VP Head of Channels, Discovery Networks CEEMEA.
Since moving to DStv’s entertainment section last year, Discovery Channel has successfully cemented itself as the #1 factual entertainment channel in Africa and over the last 12 months the #1 factual channel in Kenya’
The channel will build on this reputation through its trademark mix of compelling, high quality content including exclusive behind-the-scenes look at high profile politician Sarah Palin’s life in Sarah Palin’s Alaska and the fascinating and little known side of Mike Tyson and his love for breeding pigeons in Taking on Tyson.
In September Discovery has teamed up with Steven Spielberg to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks with a special documentarycalled The Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero.
Aletta Alberts, Head of Content at MultiChoice, says Discovery’s expanded portfolio on DStv in Africa bears testament to the strength of the relationship between MultiChoice and Discovery Networks on the continent. “This reflects the partnership we have built with Discovery Networks – one we expect to continue for years to come as we find new ways, together, to entertain our African audiences. It’s a fantastic occasion to have Discovery Networks presenting its first-ever programming showcase in Kenya. Discovery World and Animal Planet will broadcast a compelling collection of new shows including Joanna Lumley’s Nile, Marley Africa Road Trip featuring Ziggy, son of legendary Bob Marley and Wild Africa Month which goes deep into the heart of the continent and explores the mysteries and beauty of Africa.
