Rwandan genocide songs cost Sh1.4m
Four top notch East African musicians last week joined Rwandans to sing ‘Genocide Never Again’ as Rwanda commemorated 15 years since the 1994 genocide that claimed the lives of one million Tutsis and moderate Hutus over just 100 days.
Kenya’s Nameless, Burundi’s Kidum, Tanzania’s TID and Uganda’s Blu*3, were invited to spread the message of hope to the genocide survivors through songs composed by two famous Rwandan musicians, Masamba Intore and Jean Paul Samputu.
The two songs were sponsored by the National Commission against Genocide to the tune of $17,301 (Sh1, 366,779).
Masamba composed a Kinyarwanda song while Samputu composed a song in English ‘Never Again’, which was sang by the East African group of performers.
The commemoration of the genocide held at Nyanza Genocide Memorial Site, Kicukiro District, where several people were buried was presided over by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame.
